Message from Council 82 President James Lyman
At the 2006 AFSCME International Convention in Chicago, the 21st Century Committee was formed to develop a strategic plan for our International Union. As a result of that committee and as an outgrowth, each Council was mandated to develop a strategic plan, and submit that plan to the International no later than October 30th, 2007.
This plan is now available on our website.
With the assistance of staff from both our International and AFSCME New York and the Council 82 21st Century Committee, the Council solicited input from our elected leaders and our members to develop this strategic plan that provides a road map to ensure the continued success and future of our great Union for many years to come.
As part of this effort, Council 82 conducted a phone survey of our members as well as a written leadership survey. The results of both these surveys are discussed in the plan. I want to thank both our local leadership and your members for participating in this endeavor. Over the next six months, we will begin to implement this plan. In doing so, we will be reaching out to all of our locals for involvement.
I look forward to working with you to achieve the goals we have set out
to reach. This plan is something that we can all be proud of.
Council 82 President James F. Lyman
